Big Data: introduction and data analytics

Annual memberships, 24-hour passes …Do Divvy need other types of tickets?!

The research is based on Divvy (bicycle sharing system) data from 2014. When I explored the data, we noticed that depending on the time (month, week, days of week) system usage was changed noticeably. As well I was surprised by the fact that Divvy only has two types of subscriptions:

  • an annual subscription / student annual subscription;
  • 24-hour ticket.

The aim of our study was to determine how the behavior of cyclists changed depending on the time period (month, weeks, days of weeks), also determine whether there is a need for additional types of subscriptions.

Based on the analyze which I made, I came to the conclusion that for the convenience of Chicago residents and their guests would be better to introduce weekly tickets or 72-hours ticket. For example, ticket for weekend, in our opinion would be more valuable.
